SANTA FE WEEKEND - FEBRUARY 2-3

Highlighted below is the Santa Fe programming that will air throughout this weekend. In addition to having the below pieces sprinkled in throughout the weekend on the respective networks, both AHTV and BOOK TV will have a block of programming where ALL of the respective Santa Fe pieces for their networks will air.

The history of Native American cultures in Santa Fe as we visit Pojoaque Pueblo to see them celebrate their traditions and talk about the connections between their history and today. A pueblo is the equivalent in many ways to other sovereign native lands within the U.S. where native peoples live.

The Georgia O’Keefe Museum to learn about this Santa Fe resident and national icon. We see many of her well known pieces but also go beyond to see her southwestern landscapes and learn about her life and times in New Mexico.

The Palace of Governors – a place that was already 200 years old when the White House was being built as we learn about the 400 year old history of New Mexico and Santa Fe. The Palace serves as the state’s history museum.

The New Mexico State Capitol Building to learn about its history, art and architecture

The San Miguel Mission – the oldest operating church in America – dating back almost 400 years to the time of the original Spanish colonization of the area.

Native American Art and Artifacts from New Mexico as we visit the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

Learn About

New Mexico’s Railroad history as we visit the Fray Angelico Chavez History Library. Railroads were integral to the settlement of New Mexico by Americans in the mid to late 1800s.

The John Brown Home to learn about this man (Brown University is named after his family) and his family's history which pitted brother against brother over the issue of the slave trade in the days leading into the revolution. Rhode Island was an active importer of slaves during this time period.
